Cosmetic by Banou’s original studio is in Beverly Hills, CA — the flagship location of Nancy Akbari’s permanent makeup practice, where she works alongside two additional artists to offer the full range of PMU services and Banou Academy training.

Permanent Makeup Services in Beverly Hills

Our Beverly Hills studio offers the complete Cosmetic by Banou menu:

  • Ombre Brows & Microblading — hair-like strokes drawn by hand (microblading), soft machine shading that is lighter at the front and deeper toward the tail (powder/ombré brows), microshading, nano brows, and combination brows that pair strokes with shading. Shading is often suggested for oily skin; see all brow services.
  • Lip Blush & Permanent Lip Liner — a soft wash of color that evens out lip tone (lip blush explained), a defined lip border, full lips, and lip correction for dark or uneven lips, which can take more than one session. See all lip services.
  • Permanent Eyeliner — from lash line enhancement, where pigment is placed between the lashes so they look fuller without a visible line, to a fine natural liner or a bolder style; a practical option if daily liner is hard to apply (eyeliner services).
  • Scalp Micropigmentation (SMP) — tiny pigment impressions that replicate hair follicles so thinning hair looks fuller, for men and women. SMP changes how the scalp looks; it does not regrow hair or treat the cause of hair loss (how SMP works).
  • Areola Restoration — nipple and areola tattooing for clients after breast surgery or reconstruction, once their medical team has given clearance (cosmetic tattoo services).
  • Corrections — reworking earlier permanent makeup that healed unevenly or faded to an unwanted tone, starting with an assessment at your consultation.

Nancy Akbari and her team of two additional artists work from this location, our longest-established studio.

How Booking and Your Consultation Work

Every treatment starts with a one-on-one consultation. You talk through the look you want and your everyday makeup habits, and the artist assesses your face shape, skin type, undertone and natural brows, lips or lash line before recommending a technique. Together you agree on shape, thickness and pigment color, and you hear how the color will heal and soften, what aftercare involves and when your touch-up will be.

Tell us about any previous permanent makeup, skin sensitivities and your medical history. If you have brow or hair loss from alopecia or medical treatment, permanent makeup restores the look of brows or hair but does not regrow hair or treat the cause, so get medical clearance from your doctor or oncologist first.

Before Your Appointment

You receive pre-care instructions ahead of your visit. They usually include:

  • Avoiding alcohol and caffeine for 24–48 hours beforehand.
  • Talking to your doctor first if you take blood thinners — never stop a prescribed medication on your own.
  • Skipping exfoliating and active skincare products on the treatment area.
  • Staying out of the sun and tanning beds, and arriving with clean, calm skin.

What Happens at Your Appointment

The session begins with mapping and pre-drawing the shape, and no pigment goes in until you approve it. The pigment is matched to your skin undertone (and, for brows, your hair color), a topical numbing cream is applied for comfort, and the work is done with sterile, single-use needles. Plan on roughly 1.5 to 3 hours, depending on the treatment.

Right afterward, the color looks darker and more defined than it will once healed, and some redness or swelling is common, especially on the lips and eyelids. You go home with written aftercare instructions: for the first few days, keep the area clean and dry, avoid makeup, heavy sweating and sun, and do not pick at any flaking.

Healing, Touch-Ups and Healed Results

Healing follows a familiar pattern. For the first few days the pigment looks dark and sharp; light flaking or scabbing usually appears somewhere between days 4 and 10; the color can then look lighter or patchy for a while before it settles around weeks 3 to 4. The healed result shows at about six weeks, which is why a fresh photo is never the final picture.

Your first touch-up is booked about 6–8 weeks after the first session. It fills any areas that healed unevenly, fine-tunes shape and color, and reinforces the pigment. Later on, a color-boost touch-up refreshes the color as it softens; how soon you need one depends on your skin type, sun exposure and the treatment.

Over the months that follow, the color softens gradually. Oily skin, sun exposure and exfoliating acids on the area speed up fading, so daily SPF helps, and lighter lip shades tend to fade sooner than deeper ones. To see examples of our work, browse the microblading, ombré brow and lip blush portfolios, and ask to see healed photos at your consultation.

About Cosmetic by Banou

Nancy Akbari brings more than 25 years in the beauty industry to the Beverly Hills studio. Her background is unusual for the field: she started as a nurse in a burn victims’ ward, where she saw firsthand how aesthetic restoration could rebuild a person’s confidence — an experience that shaped how she approaches every procedure today. She also comes from a family with roots in Persian painting and printing, which shows in the precision and color-blending of her pigment work. Nancy is a longtime supporter of breast cancer awareness, reflected in her areola restoration work for clients post-mastectomy.
